Career Day

Southern Wake Academy will be conducting our annual Career Day on Tuesday, April 24thThis is an important day allowing students to explore a wide variety of careers spanning numerous industries. Many students are unaware of the career opportunities available to them and we hope this day both motivates and inspires them to dream big and plan for their future!

We are bringing in career-minded people from our community to provide our students with first-hand knowledge of potential career paths. The prime motivator for these presenters gifting us their time is the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of our students. We truly appreciate their time and knowledge.

Below are just a few of the presenters that we have scheduled for the event:

  • Chef John Boretti from the Art Institute of Raleigh
  • Chelly Pennington, Lawyer from Pennington Law
  • Daviel Colavito, Environmental Specialist from the Town of Holly Springs
  • Cathy Olieslaeger, Cybersecurity from Agio
  • Rob Vance, Surgical Robotics from Intuitive Surgical
  • Dr. Megan Farrelly, DDS from Campbell Dentistry

Travel Abroad Information Session

Great news SWA families:

I just booked a tour to take SWA students to Greece next summer (2019) with EF Tours! This will be my 3rd year traveling with them. I cannot say enough about traveling abroad with students and giving them the experience of a lifetime. Students become so much more well-rounded when they have experienced international travel. If you would like to learn more about how your child could  join us in Greece, let me know!

Be sure to join us for our information session Thursday, April 19th, to learn more.

At the meeting, I will discuss what we’ll see and do, travel logistics, how to earn high school/college credit, and affordable payment options.

Be sure to RSVP at or email or if you can not attend a meeting so that we can arrange another information session.

Earth Day Festival

Southern Wake Academy has started a GROW program that is ‘Bringing Learning Outdoors’ for our staff and students.  Ms. Clifton, who started the program, has plans to build an outdoor gym and art/science lab for our students.
In an effort to promote ‘outdoor learning’ and educate families about eco-friendly alternatives to help preserve our environment we are hosting Earth Day 2018. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Rising Senior Night

Who: Current JUNIORS who will be seniors next year AND a parent/guardian
What: Information meeting for rising seniors who are interested in applying to a 4-year college/university next year
When: Tuesday, April 17th at 6:15 PM
Where: SWA Multipurpose Room

Why attend?: In this meeting, we will cover A LOT of content & resources regarding the college application process and what students need to know now in order to be prepared for senior year when application season begins.

Many college application deadlines are as early as November 1st of senior year, which leaves students feeling very rushed and overwhelmed if they do not prepare. This meeting is designed to help students start preparing now so that they are not so overwhelmed during senior year.

We will run through an entire month by month timeline for senior year. Everything from what to do before you apply, when to apply, how to apply, and what to do after you apply will be covered in this meeting. I will also share with students how I plan to communicate important senior information with them throughout the year. If this meeting applies to you and your student, please make necessary arrangements to attend.

**Rising freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are more than welcome to attend as well – hearing this information multiple times can only help!
